Julley. A Journey Through the Realms of Zanskar and Ladakh
I’m so happy to share an exhibition dedicated to one of my favorite places on Earth, especially within the framework of PhotoEspaña 2025.
A big thank you to B Travel & CATAI for welcoming my photographs and allowing them to inhabit a space where they can engage with those who view them.
The exhibition will be open from June 12th to September 12th at C/ Miguel Ángel 33, Madrid.
What is Julley about?
Get ready to embark on an immersive journey through the unique landscapes of Zanskar and Ladakh, regions of the Indian Himalayas where spirituality, nature, and communal life remain in harmonious balance. In these remote valleys, where time seems to follow its own rhythm, ancient traditions and a rich cultural diversity are preserved—reflected in indigenous Tibetan-derived languages such as Ladakhi and Zanskari, which continue to connect communities to their history and surroundings. These ancient kingdoms, now centers of great historical significance, strive to preserve their customs while facing the challenges of climate change and globalization.
The roads and paths that cross these territories—true lifelines connecting villages and cultures—guide us to the most intimate corners of their society. Along the way, the signs of the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) appear as a unique form of roadside folklore, promoting safe driving in a human and memorable way, blending into the landscape and reflecting both the humor and harshness of these lands.
In this context, Julley, a warm Tibetan word used to greet, thank, or bid farewell, symbolizes the hospitality of its people, who welcome visitors with kindness and respect—inviting them to act with the same gentleness with which they are received.
